Shocking Marcos Mondaini (Chivas USA) challenge on Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake)
The first few weeks of the MLS season have been littered with long term injuries and Argentine Javier Morales can add himself to the list with another horrible looking injury.
Late in the first half of the encounter between Real Salt Lake and Chivas USA on Saturday, Chivas USA striker Marcos Mondaini tracked Morales and swept his legs with a challenge that never looked like winning the ball.
What followed was stomach churning, Morales clutched his ankle with his foot pointing in the wrong direction and bone can clearly be seen protruding inside his sock.
Mondaini was correctly shown a red card, leaving Chivas down to nine men with which they came close to salvaging a draw, only losing 1-0 to an 87th minute goal.
Just weeks ago Brian Mullen was handed a 10-game ban for his shocking challenge on Steve Zakuani that left the Congolese winger out for the season. It will be interesting to see how the MLS handle this incident.
